Samsung smartwatches battery drainage issue: Here’s another fix

Last week, we showed you a temporary fix for the rapid battery drainage issue on Samsung smartwatches, such as the Gear S2, S3, Sport and Galaxy Watch. The fix was to sideload a Gear S Plugin APK on your Android smartphone.
While the fix worked fine for many, a few users were apparently unable to download or install the APK on their smartphone, while it forced auto-update for a few others. So here’s another fix for the issue, in case the first one didn’t work for you (hat tip to our reader Rob’s Surf Report).

Fix for heavy battery drainage issue on Samsung smartwatches

As you may know, most of the smart gadgets, including Samsung watches, come with this “report diagnostic and usage info” feature within. It’s a feature which allows the device manufacturers to collect passive data from the users, so as to provide better services.
While it’s turned on by default in Samsung smartwatches, it’s apparently what causing the battery charge to drain so rapidly for some customers. A lot of users have confirmed that turning it off is doing the trick for them. All you have to do is go to the Settings >> Gear Info >> Report diagnostic and usage info, and untick it. Now reboot the watch keeping it on the charger. The heavy battery drainage should stop.

Samsung, meanwhile, would never tell the world that turning “report diagnostic and usage info” off will fix the battery drainage issue. That’s because doing so means they’ll lose a heavy chunk of data that they rely on to improve their products and services.

While both of the tricks (click here for the previous one) worked fine for many, some users say uninstalling and reinstalling the Samsung Health app also helps solve the problem. So you may try this one as well. And if any of these worked (or didn’t work) for you, don’t forget to tell us in the comments below. Stay tuned for any official fix from Samsung.
