The latest wearable User Interface, One UI, from Samsung first made its appearance on the Galaxy Watch Active. Since then we have been waiting for it to make it’s way to some of the older range of Samsung smartwatches, and today that rollout has begun. Samsung One UI Update for the Galaxy Watch, Gear S3 and Gear Sport is currently rolling out via a software/firmware update.
More changes than just One UI
Samsung One UI update isn’t only about the new One UI for wearables. You can now download new watch faces directly from the watch itself, including some that were originally shipped with the Galaxy Watch Active. The settings menu has been revamped and reorganised to make it easier to find the exact setting you are looking for.
Samsung has also added a “Daily briefing setting” that promises to make the watch to be smarter – whatever that is. We will expand on this after receiving our update in the UK. Many users will welcome the addition of being able to toggle the “sleeping mode” on/off. Other little niceties include the fact you can wake up the device by touching the screen.
Samsung Health has plenty of features already and now can display the user’s daily activity – How much you Move, Workout, etc. We have previously noticed issues when syncing between the smartwatch and smartphone and Samsung promises this will be much improved. The Watch will also begin to track your workouts much quicker. Last, but not least, we have additional Battery optimization. There has been a Setting added to manage background apps.
Samsung One UI Update
The update has been spotting for the following firmware/software versions: R760XXU2ESE3, R800XXU1CSE1, and R600XXU1CSE2 – Gear S3, Galaxy Watch, and Gear Sport respectively. The Samsung One UI download size is between 110MB and 115MB depending on your watch model. So far the update has been seen in the US, Canada, Poland, Netherlands, and Australia. I think it’s fair to say if you haven’t received the update by now, it won’t take too much longer.
Manually check for an update
If you do not get a notification to update then you can manually check by launching Galaxy Wearable -> scroll down and select About Watch -> Select Update watch software. If you don’t see an available update, then you will have to wait a bit longer.
