Samsung just took wraps of three new Galaxy wearables at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco. The Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch Active, and the Galaxy Fit are all official now. While the former is a successor to Samsung’s Gear IconX wireless earbuds, the latter two are the company’s latest offerings in its fitness tracker lineup. Here’s a quick look at what these new Samsung wearables bring to the table.
Samsung Galaxy Buds
The latest pair of wireless earbuds from Samsung promise not only high-quality audio, but also some really smart features. The earbuds come with built-in microphones and Bixby, letting you control it through voice commands without having to take your smartphone out from your pocket. You can also directly answer phone calls through the Galaxy Buds.
The earbuds pack 58mAh battery each, while the case houses a 252mAh battery and supports wired charge over USB type-C. Samsung promises the Galaxy Buds to offer up to 6 hours of battery life while streaming music and five hours if you’re making phone calls. Interestingly, Samsung says that the buds will connect automatically with your smartphone, as soon as the case is opened. We shall see how that functions in a day or two.
The earbuds support Bluetooth 5.0 and weigh 5.6g each. Galaxy Buds are compatible with smartphones running Android 5.0 or higher, and having RAM size 1.5GB or more. The wireless earbuds go on sale on March 8 for $129.99.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
Galaxy Watch Active is successor to the Gear Sport, which was launched in 2017, but is a bit bulky. Also, it doesn’t carry the rotating bezel on top of the dial. This makes navigation through the watch’s tiny screen all the more annoying. It, however, compensates with features, and price.
The watch features a 1.1-inch 360 x 360 Full Color AOD panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood is the Exynos 9110 Dual core 1.15 GHz processor, teamed up with 768MB RAM and 4GB ROM. It runs Tizen 4 out of the box, and is compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones.
In addition to what the Gear Sport offers, you also get blood pressure monitor with the Galaxy Watch Active. So you nave have an optical heart rate sensor, NFC for contactless payments via Samsung Pay, a 5ATM water resistance rating, as well as millitary standar build. The watch supports Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi, and as expected, there is no LTE variant on offer. It also offers accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, and ambient light sensor. The Galaxy Watch Active also arrives on March 8, 2019 for $199.99. It comes in Silver, Black, Rose Gold and Sea Green color options.
Samsung Galaxy Fit
Samsung also announced two new fitness trackers, the Samsung Galaxy Fit and Samsung Galaxy Fit e, at the Galaxy Unpacked. They are basically more affordable fitness wearables from the company. The Galaxy Fit features a .95-inch full-color AMOLED display, and offers a gyroscope, and an accelerometer. You also get a heart rate monitor but no GPS. It packs a 120mAH battery and charges wirelessly through NFC.
The Galaxy Fit e makes further sacrifices, as it features a smaller PMOLED black and white display. It also doesn’t get the gyroscope, comes with a smaller battery, and charges via pogo pins.
These devices run on a new “Realtime OS” and are capable of tracking a number of physical activities automatically. They also support smartphone notifications, alarms, calendar alerts, and weather. Both the devices have 5ATM water resistance, and are compatible with Android and iOS smartphones.
The Galaxy Fit and Galaxy Fit e will be available from May 31 at $99.99.
