Samsung Gear S4 / Galaxy Watch to ship with Bixby Voice Assistant, as expected

Bixby, the voice assistant replacement to Samsung’s S-Voice app, has been very much a “work in progress” since it was first released. If it had originally launched at the same time as it’s competitors (Google Voice and Siri) its initial shortcomings wouldn’t have stood out as much and a lot easier for us to forgive. Fast forward to today and Bixby has vastly improved in natural language processes and quicker response times.

Now, the latest news according to Sammobile, is that Bixby will be making its way to Samsun’s smartwatches starting with the Gear S4/Galaxy Watch, as expected. This will replace Samsung’s ageing S-Voice app, which no one found particularly Interesting or useful for that matter of fact. Also, there will be no additional dedicated button reserved for Bixby, like it has with some of its Galaxy phones, but then you can already assign an action to the home button or if you double press a button, so nothing to worry about there. You also have the option of using your voice and calling out “Hi Bixby“, but I don’t like shouting at my watch as it doesn’t seem natural, to me at least.
Possibly next month, at Samsung’s Unpacked event in New York on August 9th, we expect the Galaxy Note 9 to launch with Bixby 2.0 and this is the same version that will ship with the Galaxy Watch. As for launch dates of Samsung’s next wearable, it could be next month or possibly at IFA 2019 in September.
We have no news if Bixby will be available on the Gear S3 or Gear Sport as a firmware upgrade, but we will let you know if we hear anything. Keep following IoT Gadgets for all the news.
