Samsung Gear S2 is official, check out the specs and the voice calling features

 
Samsung Electronics have just announced the Tizen based Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch, ahead of their IFA 2015 event. We have been teased with a video at Samsung unpacked and recently an Instagram picture, and now it’s time for the real thing. The Gear S2 is the first Samsung Smartwatch with a Super-Amoled circular display, measuring in at 1.2-inch with a 360 x 360 resolution (302 ppi). The combination of the Tizen OS and an optimized 1-GHz dual core processor promises a device that has a smooth User Interface (UI) and also a battery that lasts 2-3 days.

Talking about Tizen, you will be pleased to know that this device will not be offering the same UI as every other Android Wear device out there, the whole SAME-SAME UI can be very monotonous. The Gear S2 features a unique rotating bezel and also home and back buttons, meaning users can more precisely control / navigate their device, another big No-No on Android Wear.


There will be two variants, the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic. The main difference is the styling with the Gear S2 offering a minimalistic / modern look with it being offered in a Dark Gray case with a Dark Gray band and Silver case with a White band. The Gear S2 classic will appreciated by those that value a more timeless watch design with it being be offered in a Dark grey case with a dark grey band.
The Gear S2 3G version will feature the first-ever e-SIM that will actually be embedded in the device itself and make it simpler to move between operators, or that is the idea at least. Bundled in as part of the connectivity we have NFC, which will make it fully compatible with Samsung Pay, the payment system that is far more versatile that apples offering #JustSayin. Harnessing the power of NFC you will also be able to open car doors / home locks and remote control compatible appliances.
What else have we got? Well there are sensors such as the Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer. We also have wireless charging, IP68 water and dust resistance, Fitness Apps, Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.1.
