Samsung Galaxy Fold phone coming April 26 for a massive $1,980

The wait is finally over. Samsung has just unveiled its next-gen tech smartphone, the Galaxy Fold at Samsung Unpacked. This is the tech giants first foldable phone and the great news is that it will launch April 26. Not long to go now. There will be two versions, LTE and 5G.

Samsung Galaxy Fold is expensive, no surprise there

The good news is that it is coming soon. The bad news is that it is a whopping $1,980. Users in Europe will get the device on May 3 and will retail for a cool 2,000 Euros. We knew it would be expensive, but this even stretched what our expectations were.

This is a device that we were first expecting to launch early in 2016, as we were tipped in 2015. That didn’t happen. Issues with a bendable screen and associated technology meant it would take a further 3 years.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Specifications

This is the first Samsung phone to be built on 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor technology – possibly the Snapdragon 855. You get a massive 7.3-inch QXGA+ Infinity Flex Display. When fully open you get a 1536 x 2152 resolution display. When folded it is a 4.6-inch 840 x 1960 screen that can easily be used as a standard phone. For storage, you get 512GB of Universal Flash Storage 3.0 (eUFS). Memory has been bumped up to 12GB from previous Galaxy products. The Samsung Fold has two Internal batteries with a combined capacity of 4,380mAh. For security, we have a fingerprint sensor on the side. To round it off we have AKG tuned speakers.

The user Interface takes advantage of the 7.3-Inch screen and allows you to run 3 apps at once. This might seem a bit cramped, but due to the 1536 x 2152 screen resolution, they look at home. There are optimised versions of WhatsApp, Microsoft Office, and YouTube that it will ship with. A tailor made version of Android ensures that apps work seamlessly.

Apps can be launched when the phone is in tablet mode and will resize when the phone is opened. This is the app continuity system at work.
