Samsung contest to use VKontakte on Tizen

VK Kontakte? What contacts? VK?
Yeah, alhough many of us are LinkedIn’d, XING’d or Friends via Facebook, in the Eastern part of Europe it’s VK that rules. A Russia based Facebook competitor that has hundreds of millions users. Not sure if they’re called friends but then: Who cares!
Somebody at Samsung noticed this and saw an opportunity to combine the rise of Tizen with the rise of VK and decided to make it one of their contests. Not just a nice to participate game but a $100.000 loot. (3 million Rubles). The winning apps will of course be available through the Tizen store.
In order to win developers have to develop applications that are based on the API VK Messenger and the Tizen SDK 2.2 Platform. Smart move as this will unlock another app for the masses. This contest will start October 28. On December 2 a Samsung jury will publish a long list with the 20 finalists, and December 25th three of these will be the winners that will share the prize money of 3 million rubles, or about 100.000 dollars.
VKontakte or VK has become the second largest social networking service in Europe after Facebook with about 200 million users, mainly popular in Russia. VK enables its users to send messages between contacts that are public or private, create groups, pages and public events, share and tag images, audio and video, and play browser-based games. It was developed by Pavel Durov, a young Russian developer.
