Samsung has decided to discontinue their old Samsung assistant – S Voice assistant. This ‘assistant’ wasn’t a conversational assistant but could respond to commands. S Voice has stopped shipping with new devices ever since Bixby made its debut in 2018. Now, Samsung has decided to replace S Voice with Bixby on two smartwatches – the Samsung Gear S3 and Gear Sport.
The Gear S3 Will Lose S Voice Support and Gain Bixby
The Gear S3 (Frontier and Classic) smartwatches came with the S Voice back in 2016. The assistant could be used to manage your schedule, set alarms, and answer your questions. Additionally, the Gear Sport launched in 2017 and had the assistant for the same features.
Both of these smartwatches are on the list of smartwatches that will end up losing the virtual assistant’s support on June 1st 2020. While the older smartphones and tablets won’t receive Bixby support, these two particular watches will receive support to replace the old assistant.
For smartwatches that were released after the Gear S3 and Sport, you don’t have to worry. The Bixby assistant is already available for the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Active2, however, has Bixby straight out of the box.
