Nvidia has announced a new line of laptops powered by its RTX graphics processing units (GPU). The new laptops will be available from seven top OEMs starting June. The company also announced a new software platform called Nvidia Studio. The platform, which combines RTX GPUs with specialized SDKs and drivers, will make graphics rendering and other tasks faster.
The new products were announced during a press conference ahead of Computex Taipei 2019. The annual computer expo in Taipei will be held from Tuesday, 28 May 2019 to Saturday, 1 June 2019.
7 times faster than the MacBook Pro
Nvidia’s new laptop series will include seventeen laptops made by some of the world’s leading PC manufacturers. They include Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, MSI and Razer. The laptops will feature the new Quadro RTX 5000, 4000 and 3000 GPUs, as well as GeForce RTX 2080, 2070 and 2060 GPUs. Nvidia claims they can deliver a performance up to seven times faster than the MacBook Pro.
Some of these upcoming laptops will have 4K displays, and will also feature Nvidia’s Max-Q technology. It enables manufacturers to build sleek, thin and lightweight devices without compromising on performance and battery life. Laptops with the Quadro RTX 5000 GPU will also have 16GB of graphics memory, the largest available in a laptop. The laptops will begin retailing in June, with prices starting at $1,599.
The newly announced Nvidia Studio, meanwhile, is a set of software that provides “digital content creators with the best performance and reliability when working with creative apps”. It includes Nvidia Studio SDKs and APIs for app developers and Nvidia Studio Drivers for creators. The integrated CUDA-X AI platform will help creators with tasks such as upscaling images, tagging photos or color matching videos.
As the company puts, it is a platform that will “dramatically improve performance and reliability” of creative workflows. Clearly enough, the new laptops are targeted at creative professionals like video editors, photographers and graphic designers.
