Users of desktop-to-cloud synchronization service Nomadesk can now edit files in the cloud with Zoho. Nomadesk users can right-click on a document, spreadsheet or presentation on the web-based Nomadesk dashboard and click “edit” to open the file in Zoho. Changes are then synchronized to the user’s desktop.

The new feature is included in Nomadesk’s $15 per month unlimited data service. Nomadesk is working with Zoho through the Zoho Alliance Partner Program (ZAPP), and the new functionality was built using the Zoho API integration tool.
Currently, there isn’t a way to save files from Zoho directly into Nomadesk, or create new Zoho files from the Nomadesk dashboard. Unlike Nomadesk competitor Memeo‘s new Gdrive, which backs up users’ Google Docs to the desktop, Nomadesk isn’t synchronizing users’ existing Zoho documents.
Nomadesk offers an impressive feature set including encryption, folder sharing and mobile access. The ability to edit documents with Zoho is a useful feature that may keep Nomadesk customers from choosing or moving to competitors like Memeo and Box.net, but we’d like to see a full synchronization between Nomadesk and Zoho in the future. Zdrive anyone?
Nomadesk, Ghent, Belgium, has been doing well for itself, having sealed a deal with Bell Canada to offer its backup and synchronization services to the telco’s customers.
