Motorola is working on a vertically folding smartphone for some time now. The Lenovo-owned company is reportedly bringing back its iconic Razr brand with this dual-display foldable smartphone. While there’s no word yet on its launch date, the rumor mill has already gathered some details about the upcoming device.
Motorola Razr specifications
The Motorola Razr will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, which has 8 CPU cores (2x ARM Cortex-A75 at 2.2GHz and 6x ARM Cortex-A55 at 1.7GHz) built on the company’s customized Kryo 360 architecture. The CPU is paired with Qualcomm’s Adreno 616 GPU. The phone will come with multiple storage configurations, 4GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB, and possibly even more. The battery capacity is said to be 2,730mAh, which, if true, is a little disappointing. And while the SoC supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+, it’s not clear what kind of fast charging Motorola opts for in the Razr phone. Or if it does at all.
If you’re wondering about the design, the patent document that Motorola registered with the WIPO pretty much reveals it all. The vertically folding phone features two displays, as in the Samsung Galaxy Fold. There’s a 6.20-inch 876×2142 resolution primary OLED display, and a secondary 600×800 resolution display on the back. The secondary display should function similar to that of the Galaxy Fold, or the Huawei Mate X for that matter.
Though images in the patent document depicted a single rear camera and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, these things may change in the actual product. We expect Motorola to offer at least a dual rear camera setup on the Razr phone.
The Motorola Razr is estimated to cost around $1,500. This may sound too expensive, but it still is a lot cheaper than the two foldable smartphones that have launched this year. The Samsung Galaxy Fold starts at $1,980, while the Huawei Mate X costs even more.
