LG’s next Wear OS smartwatch could work like Samsung Gear watches

Android Wear was probably heading towards a dead end, when Google decided to rebrand it as Wear OS. But there still was lingering a question: when and who would spearhead Google’s wearable revival? Apparently, the answer is ‘soon’ and once again, it’s LG to the rescue. Remember, LG was among the very first manufacturers to dive into Android Wear smartwatch market.

LG Wear OS Smartwatch

A recent FCC filing from LG all but reveals that the Korean company is readying a Wear OS smartwatch and its launch is just over the horizon. What’s interesting about the watch is that it features a circular carousel app list with the name of the selected app front and center. This is completely opposite to the vertical scroll list we used to see in Android Wear devices. Samsung’s Tizen-based Gear smartwatches already feature such interface and Wear OS might have just taken a leaf out of Samsung’s book. The watch bears the model number LM-W315 and features a circular display.

The timing of the FCC filing also makes for some interesting speculations. The watch has been revealed right on the stroke of Google I/O 2018, the company’s annual developers’ conference. The yearly event is already underway in California, and LG watch could possibly take center stage this time around.
At the beginning of this month, we also reported about LG another upcoming smartwatch, the LG Watch Timepiece. The watch will be a hybrid of digital and analog watch, featuring a circular LCD panel with analog watch hands. The hybrid watch will be powered by Qualcomm’s 1.1GHz Snapdragon 2100 system-on-chip, supported by 4GB of eMMC storage, 768MB of LPDDR3 RAM.
The 2018 edition of Google’s annual tech showcase, Google I/O has begun and it’s very likely that we see more on these two LG smartwatches there. Stay tuned as we cover all the big happenings in Google I/O 2018.
