Welcome to a moment when a game you have never heard of crosses your path and it just looks cool. Indie dev Sudo Make has been working on Kamikaze Tactics and has just released a stylish first look in advance of its demo release.
The trailer highlights the mood and feel of the game, a turn-based tactics roguelike inspired by X-Wing the Miniatures Game, Fire Emblem, and Into the Breach, while showcasing its various systems from the core gameplay loop, to mission staging, ship upgrades, and more.
Sudo Make explained the game, “Kamikaze Tactics is a love letter to X-Wing the Miniatures Game. It was wildly successful in its domain, yet hardly anything like it ever made the jump from the physical tabletop to a digital game. Soon, players will have the opportunity to try out the demo, and I couldn’t be more excited to hear their feedback.”
Key Features:
- 10 Unique Pilots, with their own ships, skill trees, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Gridless Turn-based Tactics Gameplay that places emphasis on planning and positional mastery, lending itself to highly dynamic positions which blend risks of collisions with opportunities to deal damage without return fire.
- Rich, deterministic combat mechanics that do away with “X% to Hit” pain points so common in Tactics games.
- A Crew Upgrade System that demands interesting tradeoffs of players.
- Missions that change every run to provide replayability and strategic choices, with potentially different boss encounters in every playthrough.
- Unique and charming dialog between characters you encounter on your runs to keep the story fresh and interesting.
You can wishlist Kamikaze Tactics on Steam right now and download the demo. We don’t have a timeline for a gull release but Sudo Make is working hard on this, so we wouldn’t expect it to be too gar into the future before we can get our hands on it.
