Technicians at Sony’s PlayStation Network are perhaps not having the quiet morning they were hoping for as the online gaming network continues to suffer from unexplained outages that have now been rumbling on for upwards of six hours.
With no news from Sony itself, the status page for the network still shows issues with just about every corner of the service, and many users are waking up, flicking their PlayStations on for a quick game of EA FC25 before work or school, and being met only with frustration.
Update: There is still no word from Sony about what is causing the problem, however from the initial spike that we can see oin DownDectector, it does seem as though, while issues persist, there are fewer complaints now. This however could be due to the time differences and many simply choosing to give up and either go to bed or get on with their lives.
While it may not be totally surprising that Sony has not issued a comment, likely waiting until it has confirmed the source of the outage, it has led to online speculation that PlayStation may be undergoing some form of hack. Rumors gonna, er, rumor.
The PlayStation Network Status page says that the affected systems are the “Other, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web.”
We presume that Other is probably the App, although it may encompass some other bits and bobs. With seemingly every service being affected and signing in severely affected the outage is certainly affecting millions right now.
As the problem is also affecting the PlayStation Store and potentially preventing users from purchasing games, we would suggest holding off parting with any cash until the situation is resolved so you don’t suffer any glitches further down the line.
