Intel IDF 2011 Day #1 KeyNote – Where’s MeeGo ?

Today was the the start of the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, kicking off with the keynote speech by CEO Paul Otellini talking about “The Evolution of Computing: Looking Ahead”. He announced their new partnership with Google for Android phones and Android Tablets. Yes, Android will now officially run on Optimised Intel x86 Architecture opposed to getting hacked on as has been previously the case. This is a key announcement as now consumers will have more choice of what is powering their handsets and finally brings Intels dream of having their chips inside mobile phones a reality. There was the briefest of glimpses of Android Phone with a Medfield processor inside. Andy Rubin, Google’s senior vice president of mobile confirmed googles commitment to Intel and saying they would “do whatever it takes” to make this happen.
Intel would also be working closely with MicroSoft on Windows 8 Tablets as part of “The Compute Continuum”. Hang On … Weren’t “Early MeeGo devices supporting a compute continuum”, but here there was no mention of MeeGo or even a Logo in any of the graphics. Nothing.
Its great Intel mentioning MicroSoft and Android but where is Intel ? So when you put this in context with the recent MeeGo rumours from DigiTimes and Samsung then it doesn’t look promising that Intel is MeeGo shy. As I have mentioned in the previous articles we will have to wait and see what happens. I still think we will find out sooner than later.
