HarmonyOS is now been confirmed to launch in early June

Huawei is a MASSIVE company and is embarking on a mission of releasing its own OS. In doing so it is obviously attempting to challenge the duopoly of Android and iOS. On June 2nd, its new OS, which has been in a developer preview for quite some time, will be released on mobile. The company assures developers that It won’t take long too long until we see a fully created HarmonyOS being thrown at many of its devices.

Huwawi posted a video to their YouTube channel to confirm the June 2 launch here. The China-based company has been working on this OS for quite a few years now, or at least since they announced publically the challenger to Android in August 2019. There are many rumours of any killer feature set of Harmony OS, but Huawei does need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to stand any chance.

Does this sound familiar?

This isn’t the first time that Operating Systems have tried challenging the duopoly of Android and iOS. We first got involved with the scene back in the MeeGo days. It had a chance to succeed but was scuppered by Microsoft when they took over the company and subsequently wiped 4 Billion of its share value. Tizen also had a flutter with the mobile OS, but didn’t get anywhere for reason we won’t go into here. Maybe a post that has been well overdue should put people in the know. Blackberry, the king of the productivity phone, left it too late with their QNX based OS, Blackberry 10, to succeed – but they did have a valiant go.
