A new variant of the Chromebook x2 is available in France as a new listing is spotted on the HP website reveals. Discovered by Kevin Tofel of AboutChromebooks, it’s a high-end Chromebook featuring Intel Core i5 and 8 GB of RAM. Kevin further claims the device to be already available in France at €799.00.
Chromebook x2 with Intel Core i5
HP’s widely rumored to launch a more powerful and inherently more capable Chromebook x2, but apart from a few technical documents, we are yet to see any real evidence. The latest one is also a mere spec sheet, written in French, but it details much more than we’ve seen so far. More importantly, it comes directly from the HP website.
As you can see, without even translating, in the sheet above, the unannounced variant of the Chromebook x2 features a Core i5-7Y54 processor, along with 8GB RAM and 64GB of storage. The processor is almost identical to the one found in Google Pixelbook, with a mere 0.1GHz slower turbo boost. So one can expect a performance on par with the Pixelbook. There’s still no product listing for the device though.
Google, meanwhile, is expected to launch a tablet, Google Pixel Slate, next week in New York. It comes with a fingerprint scanner, and is also likely to come with an option to dual-boot Windows 10. The Google Pixel Slate is also very likely to have Intel’s 8th-generation chips inside. However, it’ll probably be much more expensive than a top-of-the-line HP Chromebook x2. So HP would do good to get this one out in the market as early as possible. And if the pricing is right, this upgraded Chromebook x2 should be directly competing against Google’s Pixelbook lineup.
There’s no word yet on if and when this high-end variant of Chromebook x2 will go on sale outside of France.
