Google will bring the NotebookLM Plus premium features into its One AI Premium monthly subscription, expanding its capabilities.
NotebookLM has been around since 2023, with a Plus subscription plan in action since December of 2024. The new features coming to One AI include deeper customization options, higher usage limits, and extra security for users.
The app offers AI-powered research tools and customizable note-taking options, trained on data that the app turns into interactive databases. That helps it to stand out from other AI-powered note apps, which are often trained on publicly available data from the internet.
Users can ask the database questions, receive citated answers, create FAQs, and get instant summaries, both written and in audio. In the Audio Overviews, two AI hosts discuss key topics in a podcast style.
Examples of the data that NotebookLM is intended for include content from a course conducted throughout a semester, onboarding information for new recruits, or in-house guidelines that employees need to access. Google still refers to NotebookLM as experimental AI technology and some users report that you can still get hallucinated content back from the AI-powered tools.
The new premium features include higher usage limits, so users can do the equivalent of five times more note-taking and queries than a free user. In practical terms, that means 500 notebooks – each including up to 300 sources – and 500 queries per day.
In terms of security, Google is seeking to reassure those sharing sensitive data or proprietary information with NotebookLM, saying that it will “never use your organization’s data to train NotebookLM.” That means that users’ data will not be shared amongst other accounts for training purposes.
The One AI Premium subscription is available to individuals starting $19.99 a month or from $9.99 a month for students over the age of 18.
