In 2019, Indiana’s legislative body approved sports betting at various commercial casinos, racinos, and off-track betting sites. These venues were also granted rights to offer online sports betting. By the end of 2023, the state’s online betting industry was supported by 12 digital sportsbooks.
Kentucky has no commercial online casinos but does provide sports betting through racetrack operators that have a valid state license. A 2023 state law permitted parimutuel horse race wagering and retail sports betting at racetracks. These licensed racetrack operators were also given rights to partner with up to three mobile sports platforms to offer mobile sports betting throughout Kentucky. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission is the governing body for sports wagering in the state.
Both retail and mobile sports betting began in September 2023. By the year’s end, sports wagering was available through seven mobile sportsbook platforms.
