Over the last few weeks, We have seen the name “Galaxy Watch” popping up as possibly the moniker for Samsung’s next wearable tech. Now, we see the logo of the Galaxy Watch being registered in South Korea at the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
This logo, as spotted by the GalaxyClub website, is the new Galaxy Watch and uses Samsung’s iconic font that can be found across its mobile tech line up. We have been waiting for the Gear S4, as Samsung have traditionally called this lineup, but now it is becoming increasingly clear that it will be named the Galaxy Watch. Last year Samsung skipped the launch of the S4 and went into a 2-year release cycle for its premium wearable range. This new naming convention would imply a new series of the watch is also on its way. Galaxy Watch is the first and we would expect other names to follow such as Galaxy Fit and Galaxy VR.
What we know so far is that we will get a slightly refreshed design, larger battery (470mAh compared to the S3 380mAh) and a more efficient processor that means overall battery life will get a bump. The other big feature is the ability to take blood pressure, which will definitely give it a leg up against the competition. We expect both a Frontier and Classic styles available in black, gold and silver. The device has also got ECC certified with Samsung model numbers SM-R800, SM-R805, SM-R810, and SM-R815 have been spotted.
The drastic name change and recent leaks about the Galaxy watch could mean this is Samsung’s first device running Google’s Wear OS opposed to Tizen, but we do have to wait for the launch event or more leaks. When will the Galaxy Watch release? Still no news on that. We are still looking at the Note 9 Unpacked event on August 9 in New York or possibly IFA 2019.
