Galaxy Watch Active vs Gear Fit2 Pro: Is it a worthy upgrade?

Samsung‘s newest smartwatch (or should we say fitness tracker?), the Galaxy Watch Active, is available since about two months now. Sitting in between a smartwatch and a fitness tracker, the device brings substantial changes for a Samsung wearable. While it may not be a better watch than last year’s Galaxy Watch, it certainly boasts enough hardware and software improvements to make it a better device than the Gear Fit2 Pro. Or does it? Let’s find out.

Is Galaxy Watch Active a worthy upgrade from Gear Fit2 Pro?

The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro is still one of the better fitness tracking bands available in the market. It’s a very capable device that can do almost everything you’d want from your fitness band. However, it’s rectangular form factor somehow limits its functionality beyond activity tracking. It is not a device that looks particularly good if paired with nicer clothes. After all, it’s a fitness band, and is supposed to be used for activity tracking, rather than as a fashion accessory.

The Galaxy Watch Active, meanwhile, is something different. It’s small and lightweight, making it comfortable to wear during workouts, and also adds to the features from the Fit2 Pro. Features like stress monitoring and breathing exercises, along with a bigger screen to navigate through your health data, already make it a better device than the Fit2 Pro. In addition, its circular form factor also gives it a much more fashionable look.

Galaxy Watch Active vs Gear Fit2 Pro

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy Watch Active features a 1.1-inch circular AMOLED display, and is powered by the Exynos 9110 processor, with 768MB of RAM and 4GB storage space. It houses a 230mAh battery. The military grade build watch is 50 ATM water resistance, and comes with built-in GPS, and NFC support. Sensors onboard include accelerometer, gyro, barometer, and ambient light sensor.

The Galaxy Watch Active also provides better notification support from your phone, as well as widgets with more information density. The device also supports downloadable watch faces and apps, taking it further closer to a full-fledged smartwatch. All in all, the Galaxy Watch Active is a very appealing upgrade from the Gear Fit2 Pro.
