Oracle, the global enterprise software giant, has released upgrades and new management packs for its Enterprise Manager software.
The new offerings are tailored to handle the Oracle WebLogic Portal and IBM WebSphere Portal. Despite a facelift, the software has done little to seriously address the issues the Enterprise Manger has in serving today’s enterprise environment.
What’s New
Most enterprise employees will be most familiar with the Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) as the automatically-installed console for controlling an Oracle database. The new management packs plug in with the Oracle WebLogic and IBM WebSphere Portals to enable better control and performance of these applications. OEM has also changed its Management Pack Plus for SOA and Java EE.
What’s Not So New
Even with the new enhancements, OEM is decidedly ill-equipped to handle virtualization of any kind, and the OEM had fallen behind in its ability to be truly practical or convenient
Like so much of Oracle’s software, these new components are tailored for heavy lifting in enterprise IT, but are likely to be ponderous overkill for all but the very largest, cloud-wary customers.
