Charities accept crypto donations for Los Angeles wildfires

As more than 27,000 acres have been scorched by flames in Los Angeles, nonprofits are accepting crypto donations to support those impacted.

On Tuesday (January 7), intense wildfires began, spurred on by winds, and became known as ‘The Palisades Fire.’ It has grown to over 17,000 acres and is zero per cent contained.

A second wildfire, named the ‘Eaton Fire,’ also broke out on Tuesday night and evacuation orders for around 40,000 people occurred. Three other fires have broken out too, prompting more mandatory evacuation and devastating impacts on the people and buildings in Southern California.

At least five people have died as a result of the fires, with many more left hurt. President Biden has called the situation “devastating” as he stated that “Over 100,000 people have bee ordered to evacuate communities impacted by the Southern California wildfires.”

To help provide aid to those involved, a number of charities and non-profits who are on the ground assisting are accepting cryptocurrency and stock donations.

Nonprofits are accepting crypto donations to help them in their efforts

On Wednesday, the crypto donation platform The Giving Block launched an ‘emergency response fundraiser.’ This allows people to choose out of seven non-profits to give cryptocurrency too.

This includes the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, First Responders Children’s Foundation, Global Empowerment Mission, San Diego Humane Society, All Hands and Hearts Smart Response, and Direct Relief.

In the fundraiser, the company has urged people to help where they can: “Consider making a donation to the charities on-the-ground providing emergency medical care, food, shelter, and other forms of aid to those impacted.”

The nonprofits listed all accept crypto, stocks, DAF grants, and cards.

Another crypto-focused donation site, Givepact, has shared details on the foundations that are accepting donations of digital assets.

This includes Baby2Baby, Wildland Firefighter Foundation, California Fire Foundation, Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation, and the California Community Foundation.

The platform has stated that people can donate over 30 cryptocurrencies to those charities and nonprofits, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Avax, Doge coin and more.
