One of the most exciting reveals of The Game Awards 2024 was the official announcement of The Witcher 4. Even though we knew it was coming under the codename Polaris, it’s fantastic to have an actual definite announcement for the game.
One of the things fans picked up on immediately from the new trailer is that Ciri, who will be The Witcher 4’s main protagonist, is voiced by a different actor from the person who plays the character in The Witcher 3.
In The Witcher 3, Ciri is around 21 years old and is voiced by Jo Wyatt, but the character has been recast for The Witcher 4 as actor Ciara Berkeley. Speaking to The Gamer, CD Projekt Red said: “Ciara Berkeley was cast as Ciri for The Witcher IV Cinematic Reveal Trailer. Ciara is a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer, we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series.”
According to a PC Gamer interview with the game’s director Sebastian Kalemba, The Witcher 4 is set “a few uears later after Wild Hunt,” which is quite vague but suggests that Ciri won’t be too much older than she was during Wild Hunt – between three and ten seems most likely.
Is there a The Witcher 4 release date?
We currently don’t have a confirmed release date or even a window for The Witcher 4, but something CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said in an interview with Eurogamer less than a fortnight before the announcement at The Game Awards does hint at one.
Aiming to avoid toxic hype cycles such as the one the company saw for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red learned to “announce the date when you’re like really, really sure of it,” and that “for a new game, we would still expect a slightly longer – but not two-year – lasting campaign.”
So this suggests that while they haven’t pinned down an exact date to release yet, The Witcher 4 is probably (hopefully!) going to be released sometime before the end of 2027.
