Path of Exile 2 is an upcoming free-to-play action RPG game by Grinding Gear Games. It has a current early access release date of the 6th of December, after having been delayed by three weeks due to server infrastructure issues. When released, it’ll be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC – both on Steam and Epic Games. And the question on everyone’s mind: is it a co-op game, and just how cooperative are we talking? Find out the specifics below:
Is Path of Exile 2 co-op?
Players looking to hop onto Path of Exile 2 with their mates can rest assured knowing that this game does indeed support co-op gameplay, both locally and online. This means you can play on one system, or you can host a game online and your friends can join from their own consoles/PC. The local co-op also won’t be bogged down by clunky split-screen mechanics, and instead, players will just share one screen and have their own menus that open separately. Unfortunately, however, even local co-op games will still be hosted online, as an offline mode is not available in Path of Exile 2.
You can host multiplayer games for up to six people, which will be refreshing to many friend groups who constantly find themselves limited by the usual three- or four-person limit. But wait there’s more: Path of Exile 2 also supports cross-platform co-op, so you can play with your Xbox and PlayStation friends at the same time. Another surprising rarity in the gaming industry these days, with many games limiting co-op to same-systems only.
Another great thing about Path of Exile 2’s co-op features is that players can drop in and out of a game save, opting to play as a guest rather than a fully fledged member of the squad with their own game content and character progression. It makes the game a bit more accessible to new players and means you don’t have to start new runs every time you want to play with your mates. Now here’s to hoping the servers can handle the hype on opening weekend!
