According to a survey development time is reduced by up to 50% if cross-platform development tools are used. This survey was from a report by research2guidance. Developers we’re using difference cross-platform tools such as Marmalade , Titanium and Service2Media.
There isn’t much awareness of cross-platform tools and some developers seem to be reluctant using it as third party tools may limit them and the fact that they are not familiar with the interfaces. Some say that development time is lost when debugging hence cross-platform tools don’t really save much time. Although cross-platform tools appear to save time there are various factors that need to be considered such as:
- Supported OS’s
- Access of hardware
- API & services available
- Efficiency
- Quality of end result
