All new FFVII Rebirth PC updates and features

Square Enix has been moving fast since announcing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the PC at The Game Awards at the tail end of 2024. Earlier this week we were treated to the PC specifications that did more than hint that if you wanted to get the best from the game you were going to need to be packing a graphics card with more punch than many of us currently rock in our gaming rigs, and also one considerably more powerful than the PlayStation 5 version requires.

Of course, this is the PC version of FFVII Rebirth so we are going to have the opportunity to make it look very good indeed, just as we did with Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima. Anyway, we have just got a first glimpse of exactly how good this former PlayStation exclusive is going to look as Square has dropped a video trailer highlighting some of the key changes we are going to see when the game releases on the 23rd of January.

The trailer, which you can see for yourself below, is well worth a peek as Rebirth – one of the nominations for best game of 2024 and many people’s winner, looks stunning in all its PC glory.

First up the video takes us across some of the game’s memorable locations while showcasing the improved lighting and graphics that we can look forward to.

Nvidia DLSS is also included to bump up your frame rates if you have the appropriate brand of GPU. One of the stranger plus points of the PC version we are told we are getting are graphics presets of Low, Medium, and High – this is hardly anything that is new to PC games in general, but granted consoles don’t have, or need to provide these options with games being optimized for each particular machine.

The big news though is the frame rate which is capped at a tasty 120FPS alongside a 4K resolution so smooth and sexy is how it will look here.

One other item Square has chosen to highlight that is new to the PC version is the option to set the NPC count for your game so that you can fine-tune your performance if your PC is struggling with vast numbers of characters on screen – the video briefly highlights the difference in looks between a few NPCs in a location and loads.

This video has really upped our excitement for Rebirth and it could easily have us as enchanted as Tsushima did when it first arrived on PC.
