Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s gambling regulator, has issued a ban on WinBet NV for illegally targeting Swedish players via its Superb.bet website.
Punitive action was taken for offering services in Swedish and conducting transactions in Krona without the required consent.
A probe carried out by the Spelinspektionen authority further revealed Winbet, which is licensed only in Greece, violated Swedish regulations by offering a Swedish-language version of its site that automatically activated for users with Swedish IP addresses and allowing Swedish players to register without restrictions. Deposits and winnings were also pre-selected in the local currency.

Under local laws, operators are deemed to target the market if their websites feature local language options or Sweden-specific payment methods, criteria that Superb.bet had reached.

Spelinspektionen offered the entity a chance to respond to the charge, but with no response provided, the regulator enforced an immediate ban on the platform. The decision was applied with immediate effect by unit head Robert Larsson.
WinBet enforcement follows Dutch precedent
The indiscretions of WinBet follow a similar issue in the Netherlands, when the operator received a warning over its conduct.
Last October, the Dutch regulator (Kansspelautoriteit) issued a cease-and-desist order to WinBet for operating unlicensed gambling across four websites: Galaxyspins.com, Winnercasino1.bet, Superb1.bet, and Doctorspins.com.
The Dutch entity warned WinBet to stop its operations immediately or face weekly fines of $280,000, up to a maximum amount of $840,000.
Last month, Spelinspektionen also banned Simba, an online casino software provider, from operating in Sweden after it was operating without a license.
This discovery came after the regulator found that gaming brands, Betblast, SlotMonster, and FoxyGold were preselecting Sweden’s country code when registering from a Swedish IP address.
