The bill, sponsored by the Connecticut House General Law Committee, was referred to the Senate’s Joint Committee on General Law on March 6, and although the bill primarily focuses on expanding Connecticut’s online poker opportunities, a clause buried within the text hints at potential regulations setting maximum online sports wagers.
The bill states: “The maximum sports wagers established for online sports wagering in regulations adopted pursuant to section 12-865, as amended by this act.” However, no specific maximum amount is detailed in the proposed legislation.
The impact on Connecticut’s betting market
Connecticut currently hosts three online sportsbooks — FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics. FanDuel and DraftKings are partnered with tribal gaming operators, while Fanatics operates under the Connecticut Lottery.
Since the launch of legal sports betting in October 2021, Connecticut has seen over $6 billion in total handle, with online betting accounting for more than 95% of all wagers.
The state’s betting market has shown consistent growth, with the five highest monthly handles recorded between September 2024 and January 2025.

The bill outlines a framework for Connecticut to participate in MSIGA, allowing online poker operators to join an interstate player pool alongside Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Michigan, and West Virginia.
The proposed amendment defines a “peer-to-peer casino game” as a game where patrons compete against each other rather than the house, with operators earning revenue through associated fees.
In addition to wagering regulations, the bill introduces consumer protection measures. It mandates a toll-free helpline for bettors experiencing account issues and requires operators to halt betting on events if errors in odds are discovered, with full refunds issued to affected players.
