Local business listings should be improved.

Apple, perhaps taking a cue from Google's acquisition of crowdsourced geodata company Waze, has confirmed the acquisition of Canadian startup Locationary.

Where Waze focuses on traffic data, Locationary targets local business listings, using crowdsourcing and a data exchange platform known as Saturn to pull local data together and keep it up to date in terms of location and operation—a constant problem for map services.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but whatever the price, this should be a good buy for Apple, which could use a boost for its Apple Maps service.
