Zoho updated its Zoho Wiki to version 2.0 today, adding features such as granular access controls and the ability to create individual workspaces for different business units, departments, or teams. This represents a shift in Zoho’s positioning of the product from a simple app to an enterprise-level platform for intranets, knowledge bases and collaboration.
To this end, the new enterprise-grade access controls are the most significant addition. Groups, individuals, domains and the public can be given differing levels of access at the wiki, workspace and page level.
Other new features include:
Dashboards – Users can use the new widget functionality to build custom dashboards.
Notifications – E-mail notifications and RSS updates are now supported.
Visual customization – Zoho Wiki now supports custom logos, background images, and custom CSS pages.
Zoho faces competition in the hosted enterprise collaboration and knowledge management space from many players, including Socialtext. The solution will appeal mostly to existing Zoho customers, and enterprises looking for a low cost hosted wiki.
