Samsung invests $4.6 million on Audioburst, will add its services into Smart TVs

Samsung Electronics have announced a partnership with Audioburst, the revolutionary AI-powered audio search platform, to deliver an incredible new listening experience for consumers. As per the terms of agreement, Samsung will incorporate the Audioburst services into its products globally, starting with Smart TVs.
“Audioburst’s mission is to organize the world’s audio content and now, together with Samsung, we will expand our global availability to more users around the world. To start with, our platform will add a new, personalized, searchable audio aspect to Samsung Smart TVs. So now consumers will get a personal assistant style experience on their devices,” said Amir Hirsh, co-founder and CEO, Audioburst.
With Audioburst, Samsung smart TV owners will be able to interact with the TV through voice-activated commands. Users can literally gather anything and everything from news, sports, entertainment, traffic, weather and many other areas of interest. The Israel based firm pulls all those details from news sites, podcasts, radio stations and more. Its platform analyzes millions of minutes of live and pre-recorded audio content each day, and tags and indexes them to make them searchable by keyword, context and topic. Audioburst also creates a “listening identity” for users and feeds them with the information based on previous listening preferences.

“Today, there are more than 33 million voice-first devices in homes and more than 30% of the mobile queries are voice searches. The answer people receive back from their device needs to be just as compelling. When you hear an actual audio clip from a newscast, an interview or a podcast segment specific to what you asked for, the experience is so much more engaging and emotional,” Mr. Hirsh added.
The new collaboration also sees Samsung Venture Investment, an affiliate of Samsung Electronics that specialises in fostering startups, investing $4.6 million on Audioburst. The South Korean tech giant said the investment was made through the venture company last year. The investment by Samsung extends Audioburst’s Series A round of financing to $11.3 million.
If we look at the things other way round, we can also term this investment by Samsung a bid to bolster its capabilities in the AI segment. Samsung may even merge Audioburts’s features with Bixby in the future, who knows. But more importantly, we will eventually see more Samsung devices with Audioburst services built-in. It’s just a matter of when.
