World’s first bipedal musculoskeletal android, Protoclone, unveiled by Clone Robotics

TLDR

  • Clone Robotics unveiled Protoclone, a musculoskeletal android with 200+ degrees of freedom.
  • The robot features 1,000 Myofibers and 500 sensors, making it highly advanced.
  • Pre-orders for the Clone Alpha model are open for 2025.

A faceless anatomically accurate synthetic human has been created by Clone Robotics, called Protoclone, with the first full glimpse now having been unveiled on social media.

While snippets have been shown in the past, this reveal shares a full-length Protoclone which features over 200 degrees of freedom, over 1,000 Myofibers and 500 sensors – and it’s terrifying.

The robot is shown while swinging on a rope, with its feet swinging close to the floor. Although it looks like it’s come out of a nightmare for many, it marks a major moment in the industry as it’s the world’s first bipedal musculoskeletal android.

This comes as a number of companies worldwide are vying to create their own version of a robot-like model, including Meta who has just announced a move into AI-powered humanoids.

In a LinkedIn post, the co-founder and CEO of Clone reshared the introductory post and added: “Ground zero for the age of androids! Meet the first complete Clone, a decade in the making.”

Who are Clone Robotics and what is the Protoclone?

Clone Robotics has its headquarters in Poland and its focus is on building musculoskeletal superintelligent androids “with the most human-level hands in the world to solve common problems of daily life.”

The company has been working on the Protoclone for 10 years. On its website, there’s an option to reserve one of the first 279 Clones ever made to be available in 2025, with these being called Clone Alpha. In a list of pre-installed skills, the Clone can pour drinks for you, set the dining table, follow you around, retrieve items for you, and much more.

In a year-old post on LinkedIn, the co-founder and CTO Lucas Kozlik expanded on what makes his company different from others: “People ask me how Clone differs from other companies that make hands or humanoids. No one else uses muscles.

“And if they don’t use muscles, they can’t use skeletons. And then NOTHING is left from anatomy. Thus, they must reinvent the human.”

He reiterated how Clone is building synthetic humans: “The Clone will have all human bones of a natural shape, all muscles that grow directly from the bones, and thus together with the tendon form one inseparable element.
