This morning Facebook sent out invites to f8, its annual developer conference. The conference will be held at The Design Center in San Francisco on Sept. 22. Registration for the event is $400 and Facebook will not offer discounts (outside of press passes).
The keynote for f8 2011 will be held at 10:00 a.m. PDT with breakout sessions starting at 12:30 p.m. A post-conference event, After8, will be held at 8:00 p.m. In years past, Facebook has used f8 for major announcements and to set its agenda for the next year. This year, f8 comes a bit later than usual, with the annual conference coming in the fall as opposed to the spring. Are you attending f*8? There are a variety of things that Facebook could announce at f8 this year. Foremost on the mind of the tech community is whether or not the so-called “Project Spartan” is real and how extensive it actually is. Project Spartan is supposed to be an HTML5-driven application store aimed at working around the native app ecosystem popularized by Apple and Android. There have been inklings that game developers are already starting to work on Project Spartan.
There could also be more coming from Facebook regarding its mission of a unified inbox. Project Titan was supposed to be Facebook’s effort to bring chat, email, wall posts and status updates to one message folder within the platform. Will such new initiatives such as Skype integrations and Facebook Messenger also be in the mix?
