iPad for Business Round-Up: DocStorm and Conference Pad 2.0

The iPad isn’t just a hot new consumer device, it’s also an increasingly popular tool for business. Each week we take a look at the new or updated business apps for the iPad, and highlight trends in how tablets are being used in the enterprise.

This week we take a look at a new document viewer, and an updated app for giving giving presentations on mobile devices.

DocStorm

DocStorm is a new iPad document viewer for PDFs, txt files and ePubs. It offers text size adjustment, brightness settings, social sharing and internal bookmarking. It competes with apps like GoodReader. Unlike GoodReader, DocStorm supports ePub files – but unlike GoodReader, it doesn’t support Microsoft Word files.

Conference Pad 2.0 Updated

Conference Pad 2.0 is an app designed to let you control a presentation that appears on multiple iOS devices. For example, instead of giving a presentation on a projector, you could have all the meeting participants view the slides on their iPads. The presenter can still control the flow of the presentation through their own device. It uses PDF as a presentation format.

This week Conference Pad added thumbnail navigation and internal links within a presentation.

AT&T Bandwidth Throttling

AT&T announced this week that it will begin throttling bandwidth usage on Oct 1. We looked into how that will affect users. This is certainly worth considering as enterprises start using iPads and other mobile devices more extensively. See also our article on how mobile bandwidth may stunt the growth of the cloud.

The State of Consumerization of IT

This week we ran an infographic that synthesizes data from various studies about how quickly employee-owned mobile devices are finding their way into the enterprise.
