NYC Flexes Its Entrepreneurial Spirit with Internet Week

Today marks the beginning of Internet Week in New York City, an open event taking place all over the city that is “celebrating New York’s thriving Internet industry and community.” Started just two years ago, the festival is expected to draw more than 20,000 people to hundreds of official and unofficial events, a number of which are custom tailored to the startup community and should be on the top of the agenda for entrepreneurs in the Tri-State region.

Whether you have an idea and are looking for a co-founder, want some feedback on your idea or are just looking to grab a drink with some other folks in the startup game, there’s a plethora of events this week in NYC that will cater to your entrepreneurial side. (You can even join us at our Real-Time Web Summit on Friday at the Metropolitan Pavilion.) And as if you haven’t heard it before, it’s not only about what you know, but who you know, and there will be lots of “who”s around to get to knowing.

In previous years, the event has been completely decentralized, but Internet Week has a headquarters this time around. Passes to the expo center, which consists of 12,000 square feet of lounges, Wi-Fi and exhibitions, are available online for $10. If the headquarters isn’t your cup of tea, however, there are any number of other events throughout the city listed on the Internet Week website. The site has a full schedule posted with a special category for startups that we highly recommend checking out. Attendees can also make a customized schedule on the website and keep up to date with the Internet Week iPhone app.

The event is yet another sign that New York is looking to flex its technology muscles and gain some ground on Silicon Valley in the startup field, as it follows last week’s announcement by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg that the city-sponsored NYC Entrepreneurial Fund had made its first $300,000 investment in local startup MyCityWay.
