Samsung SDS wins Seoul blockchain order

Just like Dubai aiming to become a Smart City by 2020, Seoul City has made known her plans to achieve same. While Dubai is working with Consenys, Seoul city government is looking to work with Samsung SDS.

Earlier this year, Nexledger, a blockchain solutions platform, was commercialized by Samsung SDS and its affiliate Samsung Card. By May, Nexledger had joined its peers of Microsoft, Intel and others using the EEA, a global blockchain alliance, to globally spread blockchain’s mainstream adoption. Nexledger’s first trial was bringing a local shipping firm on the blockchain.

That’s how Samsung SDS won the Seoul city order to draw up a roadmap which the government intends to use in implementing blockchain for administrative purposes.
The first use case of the blockchain in Seoul city government would be using the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to collate citizen’s private details for safe public use in municipal duties.
By 2022, Seoul city hopes to have adopted the blockchain on a grand scale involving administrative duties from public transportation to public safety and social security. Government’s aim with all these efforts ties in with the underlying principles of blockchain technology which is improving citizen’s convenience and more importantly, promoting transparency.
To enable Samsung SDS to deliver on this Order, the next five months will be spent critically analysing Seoul city governance structure and system, so as to identify particular areas blockchain can be used to transform status quo.

The giant electronics and IT service provider will after the five months, develop applicable solutions design for future implementation and also come up with a step-by-step approach for successfully implementing the design.
Apart from the affiliate Nexledger, another interesting addition is Nexsign, a behavioural biometrics that Samsung would also be adding to the team that makes Seoul a smart city run on the blockchain. Nexsign came about as a result of a partnership with BioCatch.
