While he could have started his own perpetual party like some fellow list members, Skoll chose philanthropy, with a super-cool twist. Skoll founded Participant Media to promote social activism through films that are actually good. In fact, most of them are so good that you don’t realize you’re being educated while you watch them - sort of a Sesame Street for grownups.
Why He’s a Geek: eBay’s first full-time employee built it from nothing.
Why we envy him: Skoll has produced almost 50 films, including hits such as The Help, The Cove, The Kite Runner and Syriana. He’s racked up 22 Oscar nods and 5 wins - and he’s buddies with George Clooney. Extra points for making a zombie movie (a remake of geek face George Romero’s The Crazies).
