Use RDP in Your Browser with AccessNow

Earlier today we told you about MokaFive’s BareMetal and Citrix’s XenClient. These two projects strip away every element of a traditional operating system to run virtual machines at as low a level as possible.

AccessNow from Ericom takes the opposite approach. It’s an HTML5-based remote desktop protocol client that runs entirely in the browser – no Java or Flash required. It can be used to access Windows Remote Desktop Services (formerly known as Terminal Services) and other virtual desktop infrastructure.

AccessNow works in Chrome and Safari on any operating system. Ericom lists Firefox as a supported browser, but AccessNow requires WebSockets, which Firefox does not support. Ericom says the client should work in Internet Explorer with the Chrome Frame plugin as well.

The application is currently in beta, but Ericom promises support for iOS and Android in the general availability release.
