Weekly Poll: For Hosting Providers, Is the Cloud’s Future in the Small Business Market?

We’ve spent the past few days at the Parallel Summit, talking with people about the hosting industry and the small business market.

Parallel executives have reiterated that the cloud’s future is in the small business market. In talks yesterday, Parallel Executive Chariman and Chief Architect Serguei Beloussov said it will be a $50 billion market by 2015.

Here are some of the other numbers he presented:

  • According to Parallels research, the United States small business market for cloud computing will increase to $28 billion by 2014.
  • The infrastructure market will increase from $4.9 billion today to $11.9 billion in 2014.
  • The market for Web applications and “Web presence,” is to go from $2 billion to $8 billion.

Parallels sees the market moving off its IT infrastructure or starting fresh with a cloud-based approach.

There is such a significant amount of attention placed on the larger players such as Amazon Web Services and Windows Azure. But small businesses are local and they have loyalties to existing providers. They want things to be simple and trouble free. Hosing providers may be just right for the small business world.
