As the system's long name indicates, it's a technology enabled by EMC's acquisition of Greenplum earlier this year. In fact, today's press release touts the appliance's release just 75 days following the acquisition, demonstrating the importance of having systems in place to be able to efficiently handle big data.
The Greenplum Data Computing Appliance takes advantage of the parallel processing technology developed by Greenplum, and EMC says that the architecture will deliver data loading performance of 10 terabytes an hour, touting its speed over competitors' products. It is also more scalable and flexible, says EMC.
