Compliant Big Data Retention and Retrieval in the Cloud with RainStor

Companies of all sizes must retain large and growing volumes of data – and retain this data for longer – in order to satisfy business and regulatory requirements. And the costs of preserving terabytes of log and application data over long periods of time, while also keeping the information secure and instantly available, can be incredibly high.

Offering a solution to the problems of long-term, secure data storage in the cloud, Rainstor announced the release of their latest product RainStor Version 4 today. RainStor offers cost-efficient and secure historical data retention and on demand retrieval. It says this new version is designed to provide greater control over the storage of data, aimed particularly at those industries with stringent standards for data governance.

“Big Data is not just about analytics. Cost-effective, compliant retention is fast being recognized as the other side of the Big Data problem,” writes Ramon Chen, RainStor vice president of product management. “Traditional databases and data warehousing technologies are not optimized for long term retention of ever-growing volumes of data being generated. Organizations need a cost effective way to keep data secure, online and accessible to comply and avoid costly regulatory penalties.”

The capabilities of RainStor’s new version were derived through feedback from partners and users across multiple industries. The product addresses the policy compliance regulations in a number of sectors, including telecommunications, finance and healthcare.

RainStor saves inactive and read only data, compressing structured data by typically 40:1 from any source (database, log, or event data) into secure and accessible containers. It manages application archiving, application retirement, warehouse archiving, log and security event retention, and SaaS Data Escrow. The product is designed to run both onsite or in the cloud.

RainStor’s competitors include Zettapoint and CopperEye.
